Home Energy Audit
The State of Texas has officially adopted a change in its energy code effective April 1, 2011 for commercial construction and January 1, 2012 for residential construction. The main impact is that 2009 IECC/IRC mandates testing for duct leakage and specifies one of either a test for air infiltration (blower door test) or the completion of a related checklist similar to the thermal bypass checklist previously used for Energy Star 2.0.
As a result of the new mandated state energy code, municipalities are rapidly adopted the 2009 IECC including the mandatory testing. Please call us to discuss the code changes for your construction developments as this is a very dynamic situation with many cities adopted the new code as of April 1, 2011.
Please note the additional information below and on the SECO website.
(The following is adopted from an announcement from Texas State Energy Conservation Office)
Commercial Construction
The Texas State Energy Conservation Office has officially updated the states energy codes to the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code for residential (excluding single-family), commercial and industrial building construction, effective April 1, 2011.
This updates Texas Building Energy Performance Standards previously based on the 2000 IECC with 2001 Supplement. Full compliance with the 2009 IECC would yield approximagely 8-15% savings in residential and commercial energy use, while safeguarding the state's valuable energy industries.
Residential Construction
The Texas State Energy Conservation Office has officially updated the states energy codes to the 2009 International Residential Code (Chapter 11) for all residential construction, one- and two-family residences of three stories or less above grade, effective January 1, 2012.
This updates Texas Building Energy Performance Standards previously based on the 2000 IECC with 2001 Supplement.
Training Videos
The U.S. Department of Energy and the Building Energy Codes Program offers a series of webcast training videos on the 2009 IECC.
